Wilson Gets Prize Formula 1 Test

Friday, November 13th 2009

Stefan Wilson had his first experience of an F1 car today when he tested a McLaren on Silverstone’s National Circuit as part of his prize for winning the 2007 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award.

The 20-year-old completed 20 laps in an MP4-23, and while wet conditions made it difficult for him to fully explore the car’s potential, Wilson nevertheless came away pleased with his morning’s work.

“That was pretty cool,” he told AUTOSPORT. “It’s a huge thing to get the chance to drive an F1 car, and I’m so glad that I got the opportunity to do it.

“The conditions were probably the worst they could possibly have been for me, but you’ve got to play the hand you’re dealt. I really enjoyed it, and I’m really pleased to be able to say that I’ve tested an F1 car. I hope that one day I can try one in the dry.”

Wilson will now direct his attention on trying to secure an Indy Lights drive in the U.S. for 2010 after testing with Sam Schmidt Motorsports at Kentucky Speedway last month.
